Sant’Agata Bolognese, 20 August 2014. Automobili Lamborghini presents its new generation racecar developed by its Motorsport department: the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo. Unveiled in a world preview a few days ago during the prestigious Monterey Car Week (California, USA), the car will debut in all three series (Europe, Asia and North America) of the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.

The Huracán Super Trofeo marks a new benchmark for the race series. According to Maurizio Reggiani, in charge of Lamborghini’s Research and Development Department and motorsport activities, “The Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept. Every feature is engineered for sophisticated high performance, complying with the strictest motorsport safety standards.”

The chassis features an exceptionally light roll cage at just 43 Kg that extends to the rear axle, and impressive torsional stiffness that represents a massive 45% improvement compared to the previous model. The frame is a hybrid carbon/aluminum construction with modified geometries to house an improved radiator up front and better accommodate the racing gearbox at the rear, which also provides better aerodynamics. The dry weight of the Huracán Super Trofeo is 1,270 Kg, with a weight distribution of 42/58%.

The bodywork is in composite materials and, along with the aerodynamics, has been developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering with the direct involvement of the founder Gian Paolo Dallara. Refinements to the Huracán Super Trofeo include new bodywork ‘fast fittings’, and a new oil radiator providing even more performance than that found on the Gallardo. The new Huracán Super Trofeo adopts the V10 direct injection engine mounted on the road car, managed by a Motec control unit that delivers a maximum output of 620 hp and an astonishing weight/power ratio of 2.05 Kg/hp.

A significant feature of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is the rear-wheel drive choice as already adopted in the GT classes. This will allow Super Trofeo drivers to gain important experience of this traction system to facilitate their motorsport careers. Further technical features on the Huracán Super Trofeo include new engine supports, a new three-disc clutch and an XTrac sequential gearbox developed specifically for the Huracán Super Trofeo with an electric actuator designed by the Magneti Marelli Motorsport division.

Electronics represent a significant leap forward in development, and now include new lightweight cables and connections specifically for racing. The control unit is the MOTEC M182 that controls data, gear changes and the new TFT display mounted on the dashboard. Special features are the traction control and the Bosch Motorsport ABS. This system features 12 different settings that can be actioned directly on the steering wheel for ideal set-up in any weather/track conditions. Front and rear lights are now LED only as on the road going version. A new, race-oriented steering wheel has been developed jointly with OMP.

Aerodynamics have been refined for better drag efficiency and maximum traction and downforce in any track conditions. More balanced than before, the aerodynamics now benefit from a rear wing with ten different settings, front and rear diffusers, and adjustable front air intake ducts.

The new Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo will be exclusively equipped with Pirelli tyres. Pirelli has followed every phase of the new car’s development - from the first drawings to final road tests - in order to create tyres that are perfectly matched to the Lamborghini’s specific characteristics. In particular, the decision to go with two-wheel drive for the new Huracan Super Trofeo has led to new tyre sizes: 305/660-18 at the front, and 315/680-18 at the back.

The Huracán Super Trofeo is mounted with fully adjustable anti-roll bars and two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers. The hydraulic power steering enhances steering sensitivity and adopts an electric power pump. In the racing-specific interiors the Alcantara® in Nero Ade colour is used throughout the car, on the dashboard and central tunnel and also on fundamental driving parts, such as the steering wheel, gear selector and ergonomic seats.

Lamborghini’s newest raging bull supercar already made its track debut last month in development tests. For the occasion, under the supervision of the Chief Test Driver Giorgio Sanna and along with the two official Automobili Lamborghini test drivers Fabio Babini and Adrian Zaugg, all the Young Drivers Program pilots were involved and provided their feedback. With the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo the historic partnership between the brand founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini back in 1963 and Gian Paolo Dallara, now becomes even closer. The same Dallara was among the first engineers who worked on Lamborghini cars and had a key role in the development of the legendary Miura.

"For Dallara Engineering, it has been very rewarding to be involved in the aerodynamic and body development of a high performance car such as the Huracán Super Trofeo. From my personal point of view it has been for me a kind of ‘homecoming’," said Giampaolo Dallara. Every year, crowds of video game media, tastemakers and celebrities flock to the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo to learn about the latest video games and technology produced by the world's biggest video game makers.

 This year, one of Microsoft's most highly anticipated Xbox One games, Forza Horizon 2 debuted at the show. Lamborghini’s new Huracán LP 610-4 is featured as the hero car on the front cover of the game.

 The Huracán show car from the Geneva Motor Show was displayed front and center at the Microsoft booth as the highlight of the offerings.

 The Forza series are some of Xbox’s heaviest hitting games in terms of popularity and sales. This year’s E3 was the North American debut of the partnership between Lamborghini and Forza. More joint events between Lamborghini and Microsoft are expected throughout the year.

THE SUM IS GREATER THAN ITS PARTS

The Lamborghini LP 610-4 Huracán achieves many technological feats as it goes into production. And at the recent launch event in Spain, members of the media were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes perspective of what goes into making the Huracán so special.

So before you get behind the wheel of your new Huracán, join us for an in-depth look at what makes the Huracán such a special car for Lamborghini.

Starting with the Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Hybrid chassis, a first-ever achievement for a serial Lamborghini, engineers were able to achieve a 10% weight reduction, with a 50% increase in torsional stiffness over the outgoing Gallardo. For this application, it is the optimum balance.

A fantastic chassis is just one component; with the latest 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 and its dual-clutch Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) gearbox, the Huracán evolves into a lighter, faster and more aggressive performer. The all-new LDF gearbox is the first seven-speed dual clutch unit that allows for both high-performance driving and day-to-day driving needs.

With 610 horsepower, and 75% of its 560 Nm413 ft-lbs of torque available at 1,000 rpm, the beating heart of a V10 achieves blistering performance returns with the help of both direct and indirect fuel injection; also resulting in an 11% decrease in C02 emissions by use of its standard stop-start technology.

Harnessing the power and translating it to the street is the new electronically controlled all-wheel drive system, electromechanical power steering and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS).

The Huracán can achieve a 0-62 mph time of 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph.

The all-wheel drive system comes with a base rear bias of 70%, and can maximize its rear torque distribution from 50% up to 100%, all managed through the dynamic mode selection with the Adaptive Network Intelligent Management (ANIMA) selector.

Helping to calibrate and configure ride values is the double-wishbone suspension and Magneto-Rheological dampers. Working in conjunction with the ANIMA system, this allows for a comfortable daily-driving style, as well as improved and more aggressive handling for track-oriented driving.

To help with stopping, standard carbon ceramic brakes can stop the car in as little as just over 104 feet from 62 mph. This is a more than three-and-a-half feet improvement over the Gallardo.

And wrapping all the technology and development is the innovative and efficient exterior, penned by Head of Design Filippo Perini and his team.

With the latest car, designers needed to reduce drag, increase downforce, improve cooling as well as improve lateral wind stability, have high driving agility all while improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions; no small order.

With much work, the engineers were able to reduce the drag by 3%, and increase downforce by 50%.

Also, the addition of a middle front-wing guides fresh cool air into the coolers, as well as channel air to the back diffuser past the covered underbody, with strategically placed inlets to help cool the mid-engine components under all traffic conditions.

These also help contribute to the eight percent improvement of efficiency over its outgoing predecessor.

All components, tireless tested, modeled and developed, are impressive in their own right, but it is truly the sum is greater than the parts, and that equals the next great super sports car from Sant’Agata Bolognese.

NORTH AMERICAN PRESS AND DEALERS STORM SPAIN IN THE HURACÁN

For nearly a week in late March in Marbella Spain, Automobili Lamborghini hosted more than 100 publications to experience the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 at the exclusive Ascari Race Resort and on the mountain passes surrounding the Costa del Sol.

The following week, the whole of the global Lamborghini dealer network came to learn all the details and play with the latest super sports car from Sant'Agata.

Hot laps on the circuit gave each attendee the opportunity to experience the vehicle amidst its various settings for both the street and track-oriented driving styles: Strada, Sport and Corsa.

After the track, drivers then piloted down the streets and surrounding mountain roads for a glimpse into what it’s like to turn a normal day into something extraordinary, just from behind the wheel.

THE LAMBORGHINI HURACÁN LP 610-4 DESIGN EVENT

The New York International Auto Show is always one of the year’s largest and most significant international motor shows, of particular importance to the US market. The automotive industry never disappoints with its impressive efforts for this event with displays of future production and concept cars. Lamborghini is no stranger to this annual exhibition, and as such hosted a private event at an offsite venue to give VIPs and media a more in-depth look into the design influence of the recently revealed Huracán LP 610-4.

The event, “Beauty: From the Magic of Nature to the Lamborghini Huracán,” was held Tuesday, April 15th at Bathhouse Studios in New York City. Mr. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO & President of Automobili Lamborghini and Mr. Filippo Perini, Head of Centro Stile Lamborghini came from Italy to present the car to guests. Mr. Winkelmann spoke about the efforts of bringing the car to fruition as well as three criteria that must fit the design philosophy - form follows function, immediately distinctive and ascribable aesthetics, and aeronautic inspiration. After he spoke about the importance of Lamborghini design as a blend of art and engineering, he transitioned to Mr. Perini, where the company’s design chief shared with guests the background on his theory of Lamborghini design.

After the presentation guests socialized over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and then had an opportunity to personally interact with Lamborghini’s newest masterpiece.
